Intro

Common law of confidentiality
Although not written in statute, the principle of the common law of confidentiality states that information confided should not be used or disclosed further, except as originally understood by the confider, or with her/his subsequent permission. In other words, if you are told something in confidence, you are not at liberty to disclose the information without permission.
Human Rights Act 1998
The Human Rights Act establishes the right to respect for private and family life. Current understanding is that compliance with the Data Protection Act and the common law of confidentiality should satisfy Human Rights requirements.
Transparency and access to information are basic principles of AT.uk association.
AT.uk must provide members of the Algerian community with information on current issues in process, or plans affecting them, their progress, decisions reached and their effects.
Members are also advised how to submit questions about local affairs and to express their views to those in charge of planning and decisions.
Members of the AT.uk have the right to propose initiatives . votes and decisions can also be arranged.

Why have a Code?
A lack of clear guidance for members on their behaviour can damage the association. a code of conduct can reduce risks
The Code of Conduct indicates the standards of behaviour expected of a member of the Association. It sets out, in general terms, the standards and duties which it is reasonable to expect a member of the association to observe. This can be used as a point of reference when dealing with disciplinary procedures against members. This is intended to protect the association and individual members .
All Algerians should benefit from AT (Algerians-Together) concept and enjoy this experience. For this to be achieved, you will be expected to show responsible behaviour while participating as well as respect for the rights of other members.
To ensure the maximum benefit and enjoyment for all, and for the reasons of commun interrest, the following rules will be as a requirement of participation
All members share a serious responsibility for the Organisation’s good public relations,especially at the community level. Their readiness to help with charitable,
educational, and civic (human rights) activities brings credit to the Organisation and is encouraged.
members must, however, avoid acquiring any business interest or participating in any other similar activity outside the Organiation that would, or would appear to:
Create an excessive demand upon their time and attention, thus depriving the organisation of their best efforts on the job.
Create a conflict of interest - an obligation, interest, or distraction - that may interfere with the independent exercise of judgment in the Organisation’s best interest.
Code of Conduct
As an AT member you are expected:

• To show respect, dignity and worth of every person, regardless of gender, ability, disability, cultural background race, religion, colour, language

Treat everyone equally and to accept responsibility for own behaviour and involvment.

• To ensure own activities are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of the individual.

• Not to use or react to offensive language (insults, using words , pictures or videos, slander, defamation, stalking, abusing someone’s name or picture, abuse of confidence

To behave in a way that makes any other member feel uncomfortable or vulnerable .However, in the event of misconduct the AT disciplinary system will be adopted. This procedure will be explained when rhe AT membership start

. No political debates ( to be neutral is fondamental), religious or ethnic issues can be debated when specific and with the approval of the panel

• To cooperate fully with other members in the best interests of the AT association .

• To develop an appropriate working relationship with other members, based on mutual trust and respect.

• Always to strive to act in the best interests of the organisation and to cooperate fully with other members .

• To declare any conflict of interest, or any circumstance that might be viewed by others as a conflict of interest, as soon as it arises

• Not to break the law, go against AT regulations or act in disregard of organisational policies in relationships with members, or anyone you come into contact with in your role as member and promise to abide by the fundamental values that underpin all the activity of this organisation

• Not to speak as a member of this organisation to the media or in a public forum without the prior knowledge and approval of the panel

• When you are speaking as a member of this organisation, your comments will reflect current organisational policy even when these do not agree with your personal views.

When speaking as a private citizen You will strive to uphold the reputation of the organisation and those who work in it

• To respect organisational, board and individual confidentiality

take an active interest in the organisation’s public image, noting news articles, books, television programmes and the like about the organisation, about similar organisations or about important issues for the organisation.

• You will not personally gain materially or financially from your role as member, nor will you permit others to do so as a result of your actions or negligence

• To document donations and expenses and seek reimbursement according to procedure

• Not to accept substantial gifts or hospitality without prior consent of the panel

• To use organisational resources responsibly, when authorised, in accordance with procedure

• To strive to embody the principles of leadership in all actions and live up to the trust placed by (organisation).

• To abide by board governance procedures and practices.

• To strive to attend all meetings(conferences etc..), giving apologies ahead of time to the panel if unable to attend.

• To study the agenda and other information sent in good time prior to the meeting and be prepared to debate and vote on agenda items during the meeting.

• To engage in debate and voting in meetings according to procedure, maintaining a respectful attitude toward the opinions of others while making yourvoice heard.

• To accept a majority board vote on an issue as decisive and final.

• To maintain confidentiality about what goes on in the meetings unless authorised by panel to speak of it.

• To understand that substantial breach of any part of this code may result in your removal from the organisation (or the trustee board.)
Should you resign from the board you will inform the panel in advance in writing, stating your reasons for resigning.
